Joan Miró va arribar per primer cop a Mont-roig el 1911, tenia divuit anys. Hi va fer estades d’uns tres mesos fins el 1976. Són seixanta-cinc anys gaudint del blau intens de la mar en els dies de sere, del vent mestral, de passejar pels camins de Les Pobles observant com anava creixent algun pal de ballarí de les atzavares, o fruint del moment en que la seva ma acaronava la pedra roja de la muntanya de la Mare de Déu de la Roca. Miró arribava al mas amb la primavera. Com les orenetes.
El llibre és cenyeix fonamentalment en situacions relacionades amb Mont-roig. El seu mas, no és un diorama on Miró i d’altres amics seus actuen, entren i surten. S’intenta reflectir la vida d’aquell entorn pages de Les Pobles. Hi ha el soroll de les ones de la platja de la Pixerota, l’aigua lliscant pels recs dels horts, els grills, el tossut bordar dels gossos... i el xiscle de l’oreneta.
El més rellevant són les veus dels mont-rogencs que el van coneixer, els seus masovers: els Boquera, els Calaf, els Rovira. També algun pages del voltant del mas o el taxista que el duia a recórrer el pobles del Baix Camp i el Priorat.
