This catalogue raisonné of Miró’s paintings covers seventy-three years of artistic work, from 1908, the date of the earliest identified painting, to 1981. It is in six volumes, each one representing different stages of his work.
Volume IV has 336 entries. They span a huge range of different techniques, media and dimensions and often make use of unconventional media. Miró often painted in series and chose to paint on large canvases, such as those we see in the first three monumental triptychs. In addition, while still continuing to use oil painting, he also began to use acrylic.
Each reproduction is accompanied by a descriptive note giving the following details: title, date, technique, medium, dimensions, location of signature, handwritten notes on the back, collection, provenance, exhibitions, and bibliography.
