This exhibition is organised by the Tate Modern, London, and the Fundació Joan Miró, Barcelona, and brings together over 150 works by the artist showing that his tendency towards contemplative isolation was accompanied by a coherent response to events. Miró lived through turbulent times and was not immune to their effects. Despite his instinct to go far away, he admitted “there is no ivory tower” and that the “ladder of escape” has to be firmly rooted in reality if it is to lead to creativity.
