For Joan Miró, the carob tree symbolizes roots to the earth. That is why, in all his travels, he always carried a Mont-roig carob in his briefcase.
In November 1975, in the presence of the artist, a centenary carob tree from Mont-Roig was delivered to Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona. The tree was installed in what is known as "Pati del garrofer".
